THE REVIVALISTS
Two-Channel Video Installation
Work In-Progress (2026-Present)
A companion piece and an expansion of the archival composite film The Country Dwellers, this video installation explores present-day experts in Appalachian folk practices such as herbal healing, water dowsing, and planting by the signs. Featured interviews include herbalist Rebecca Beyers, water dowser Lee Barnes, and the former printer of the historic Blum’s Almanac, Mark Goslen. Also featured is an interview with the artist’s mother, who recounts her experience as a young girl, when a wart on her hand was “bought” by a local wart conjurer. Together, these stories reveal a living tradition in which knowledge of plants, water, land, and the unseen continues to circulate across generations in the region.
