STUDENT WORK - Commercial Video

COURSE: Intro to Digital Media

(Software: Adobe Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder)

Students worked with HD video cameras, LED studio lighting, and lavalier and boom microphones over the course to create short video projects.

ASSIGNMENT: Music Video

For the first part of this assignment, students work with provided footage to learn multi camera video editing. The editing exercise is meant to train students on cutting to the beat, secondary audio sync, establishing visual rhythm, and color grading. Students also practice producing and executing their own music video shoot.

ASSIGNMENT: “As Seen on TV” Commercial Project

For this project, students create an “As Seen on TV” commercial. Students work with strategies like spokesperson / ”person on the street” testimonials, call to action, key framing, picture in picture, transitions, logo “bugs” and incorporation of animated graphics into the video.

This is the story of a hapless caveman who is having trouble “evolving.” He can see his neighbors out-competing him becoming successful and turning into Homo Sapiens. I saw my caveman’s frustrations at not being able to “keep up with the Jones’s” as they evolved. This view of evolution, a sort of Lamarckian inheritance where the individual is aware of and involved in his/her own individual evolution, is absurd and a parody of Darwinian evolution itself… the perfect fit for a parody commercial.
